Dear John,
I wanted to start out by saying thank you to everyone who sent me a message of support throughout this past week. This week hasn’t been easy, but the outpouring of messages from around the district has been overwhelming. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Well, I say this often – but this time, it’s especially true. With a trip to Texas and quite a few events happening in the district – there was a lot going on this week!
On Wednesday, I flew down to the southern border to join a bipartisan group of my colleagues from the Energy and Commerce Committee for a field hearing on the fentanyl crisis. During the hearing, we discussed the impact this crisis is having on American communities and heard from witnesses about the ways Congress can help address these critical issues. And just after that hearing, my colleagues and I joined Customs and Border Protection officials for a tour of the southern border.
During this experience, we exchanged ideas on how to protect our communities from the dangers of illicit fentanyl. This just shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Moving forward, I’m hopeful that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will be willing to work to make a dent in this crisis. That’s certainly what I’ll be doing – and that’s what our families and communities deserve.
Here's what else I was up to this week:
Delivering Valentines to Hastings Veterans Home
Thank you to everyone in #MN02 who sent in a handmade valentine for this year’s Valentines for Vets program! With your help, I was able to deliver hundreds of valentines to Hastings Veterans Home on Tuesday and say thank you to the brave Minnesotans who have served our country.
Appointed to the House Agriculture Committee
Big News! We all know that our farmers and producers are the driving force that make our country strong – and it’s an honor to represent Minnesota’s family farmers as a member of the House Agriculture Committee for a third term. Let’s write this Farm Bill!
Meeting with Second District County Commissioners
While I was back in Minnesota this week working from the district, my staff was able to meet with some familiar faces back in my DC office. Thanks to all the electeds from Dakota County, Washington County and Scott County who stopped by – looking forward to our continued partnership!
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
Last week was the President’s State of the Union Address. For this year’s address, I was joined by Heather Mathews, who has been teaching special education at Southview Elementary School in Apple Valley for 31 years. Thank you for joining me, Heather!
Thanks again for your well wishes. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
