Friend,

This week, I held my first town hall meeting of this Congress in Grundy County. As always, none of the questions were pre-screened or filtered – we had a free-flowing conversation on the issues of the day, and it was great to hear from those in attendance.

I provided an update on my work in Washington and took questions on holding China accountable, pushing back on WOTUS, and increasing resources for veterans' mental health care. I truly appreciate everyone who took time out of their day to join the conversation and share their concerns. Whether we agree or disagree, I will always be accessible and tell you where I stand. Democracy is a two-way street, I can’t do my job without your feedback!

I will continue to hold regular town hall meetings throughout the district to hear directly from you, so that I can tell your stories in Washington, DC, and advocate for policies that you care about.

Read on for more information about my work for you this week!

Best,

More Money in Your Pocket

This week, I co-sponsored the TCJA (Tax Cuts and Jobs Act) Permanency Act to make key tax cuts enacted in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent for individuals and small businesses. Thanks to President Biden’s reckless spending, Iowa families and small businesses are facing record inflation and struggling to make ends meet. Making these key tax cuts permanent will help Iowans keep more of their hard-earned paychecks and give our Main Street businesses the certainty they need.

Iowa Falls Main Street Tour

On Monday, I enjoyed checking out the incredible female-owned Main Street shops in Iowa Falls. I heard from small business owners who continue to grapple with supply chain trouble, workforce issues, and inflation. I will continue advocating for policies that make it easier for our small business community, not harder.

Lock & Dam #12

The lock and dam system along the Upper Mississippi River is critical to Iowa’s agriculture economy. It was great to be back at Lock and Dam #12 in Bellevue and learn more about our priority investments.

Centrally Rooted

I had the opportunity to visit Centrally Rooted in Dubuque. The team is doing wonderful work to help promote brain health through creative avenues like music therapy. What I’ve learned about brain health is that it’s not one-size-fits-all, and the Dubuque community is lucky to have the Centrally Rooted team serving them.

Women in Agriculture Roundtable

I hosted a roundtable in Manchester with a diverse group of women in agriculture, from farmers to educators. We discussed ways to fuel our workforce and priorities for the Farm Bill. Iowa women are truly leading the way to feed and fuel the world, and I appreciated the insightful conversation.

Bolin Farm Tour

I toured the Bolin Farm this week – Lynn and Dan are fifth generation farmers who are teaching their children to do what they love. I enjoyed seeing their operations firsthand, talking about their priorities, and receiving their input ahead of the 2023 Farm Bill.

Kibble Equipment

It was great to see the Kibble Equipment facility! Their mission to improve farmers’ livelihoods with innovative solutions, including precision agriculture, is key to increasing crop yields and lowering farmers’ overall input costs and environmental impacts. My bipartisan bill, the Producing Responsible Energy and Conservation Incentives and Solutions for the Environment (PRECISE) Act will help get more precision agricultural tech to our farmers and advance this shared priority.

Mitchell County Economic Development Commission

I held a roundtable with members of the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission to discuss opportunities for economic development in rural communities, including increasing access to broadband and housing developments. I’ll always advocate for our local priorities in Congress.

Blood Drive at Cresco VFW Hall Post 4561

My last stop of the day on Thursday was to donate blood at the VFW Post in Cresco. While donating, I also answered questions from veterans on improving care at the VA and expanding veterans' mental health care access. It was great to catch up with folks, and I encourage anyone who is able to give blood!
