Fifteen years after California voters passed Proposition 8, which banned the state from recognizing same-sex marriages, we will have the chance to rid our state constitution of this destructive amendment once and for all.
Although marriage equality has been the law of the land since the landmark 2015
Obergefell case, conservatives on today’s Supreme Court have already indicated that the court may revisit that decision.
We need to affirm marriage equality and enshrine this fundamental freedom in our state constitution – before extremists take aim at our rights once again. Add your name right away and join the fight to overturn Prop 8!
I have long been a champion for LGBTQ rights here in San Diego, and in Congress. In the early days of the fight for marriage equality, I was the only candidate in my race for San Diego City Council who spoke out strongly for same-sex marriage.
Since then, I’ve worked hard to sponsor and pass legislation to expand and strengthen civil rights protections for all. And now, I have the honor of serving as Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus.
We made important progress on the federal level with the Respect for Marriage Act last year, but our work to ensure full equality for all Americans is not done.
Join the fight to enshrine marriage equality in our state constitution and defend LGBTQ rights!
Thanks for speaking up.
