Fireside Sessions

Report from Texas

Since last Thursday, when Congress dispersed for a two-week recess from votes, I have been traveling across our district to meet with constituents and assess the needs of our communities. The geographic makeup of our congressional district is difficult to attend to, as its the size of three conventional districts combined. While that can be a challenge, I believe it is my duty to remain accessible to each of you. Doing so allows me to accurately reflect your concerns, goals, and priorities in Washington.

Appropriations Secured, Projects Funded

McLennan County Judge Scott Felton, City of Waco Mayor Dillon Meek, and I kicked off the week at the steps of Waco City Hall for a press conference to celebrate a sum of $5,700,000 in secured federal funding for Waco and McLennan County. The funding will be allocated to projects across both areas that I spearheaded to get passed by Congress.

ImageFunding and projects include $1,760,000 for the Speegleville Road Bridge at Middle Bosque River project, $1,000,000 for the Lake Waco Embankment Study, and $3,000,000 for the Bull Hide Regional Reclamation Plant community project. Not to mention another $4,700,000 for the Lake Waco Embankment Study that is being provided by the Army Corps of Engineers, whom I brought to the table.
Each of these projects is intended to address new safety concerns in our communities as Central Texas’ growth is seemingly exponential. I am proud of the work that has been done, and look forward to future collaboration with Judge Felton and Mayor Meek.

Hearing from You

On Tuesday, I had a wonderful time at the Moosehead Cafe with folks from Crockett, Texas. It was an honor to provide them with an update on the latest news from Washington and the work I am doing to protect our Constitution. I discussed the importance of upholding our founding principles and the need to ensure that our rights are preserved.

ImageMany attendees voiced their concerns during the forum. The most frequent issues included our nation’s out of control deficit spending and unchecked illegal immigration along our southern border. I share their sentiments and believe our nation cannot sustain itself on its current trajectory. I will deliver solutions on both issues for the benefit of the United States, the State of Texas, and my constituents. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with the people of Crockett and share my commitment to defending our Constitution.

Community Safety

Law enforcement plays a critical role in keeping rural areas safe and secure. In Angelina County, I met with County Sheriff Tom Selman, County Judge Keith Wright, and key law enforcement leaders from the cities of Diboll, Huntington, and Lufkin. Unfortunately, many rural communities are facing an increase in crime due to limited resources and manpower, which is why it is essential to prioritize funding enforcement officers in these areas.

ImageOne way law enforcement can help diminish crime in rural areas is by increasing their presence. This could include more patrols, increased surveillance, and better communication with the community. Additionally, law enforcement should focus on building relationships with residents to gain their trust and support. By doing so, they can create a sense of safety and security in the community. In Washington, my colleagues and I are stymying attempts to disenfranchise our officers and calls to remove the support they need. I will work with our officers in our shared effort to improve community safety.

Recognizing Success

Down in Round Rock, Texas, I attended the Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, which celebrated successful business leaders and entrepreneurs who have made a mark in their community. In particular, a strong commitment to family values was recognized among all award winners.

ImageRound Rock is currently undergoing a period of rapid economic growth. I was very happy to see many new faces of businesses who have recently joined the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce. They are a reflection of the prosperity being experienced in the area. Congratulations to the chamber and business leaders of Round Rock. I am looking forward to continuing my work with them.
