Protecting Washington Farmland from the Chinese Communist Party

The People's Republic of China, controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), is not our ally. Why, then, have we decided as a nation that they should be able to buy our farmland? Especially when it is explicitly prohibited for Americans to buy land in their country.

This week, I visited the Washington State Legislature and discussed this concerning issue with them. In order to guarantee our national security, we must know where our food is coming from. Our food supply chain must remain secure and independent, which means depending on our domestic farmers.

On the federal level, I introduced the Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act, which would prohibit the purchase of agricultural land by the Chinese Communist Party and stop them from benefitting from our farm programs.

I hear from many Central Washingtonians who are deeply concerned about the CCP's purchase of our farmland and I remain fully committed to ensuring we take a proactive stance against the CCP's purchase of our land.

The Border and Fentanyl Crises Put Our Communities at Risk

Last month was one of the worst months for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in over 20 years. They were faced with over 150,000 illegal crossings, which included 15 more suspected terrorists. And those are just the people who were apprehended!

To really understand the root of this crisis, we have to look at the numbers. Since taking office, President Biden has allowed over 4.6 million illegal crossings of our southern border. Simply put, President Biden has placed our communities at risk by his open-border policies and rhetoric.

Border security is national security, and an open border risks ours. The Biden Administration has made it abundantly clear they have no plan to solve this crisis, so I remain committed to holding them accountable and coming up with viable solutions this Congress.

Supporting Central Washington Manufacturing

This week, I toured Pexco Aerospace's 148,000-square-foot facility in Yakima. Their facility was designed specifically for the extrusion of polymer parts for aircraft interiors.

Inside you will find a state-of-the-art machine shop capable of building some of the most complex toolings for both extrusion and fixturing CNC routers and mills.

Pexco Aerospace produces high-quality and high-performing polymer products and creates many good-paying jobs right here in Central Washington.

It was great meeting with the wonderful folks of Pexco Aerospace, and I look forward to continuing to have Central Washington be on the cutting edge of aviation.

Fighting for Root & Stem Projects

Earlier this month, I introduced the Root and Stem Project Authorization Act to provide the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management with a clear statutory tool to treat forests more efficiently and empower collaborative processes through "Root & Stem" projects.

Former president of the Association of Washington Businesses, Don C. Brunell, explains how important this legislation is for the state of Washington.
