President Trump and climate-denying allies would like nothing better than for us to throw our hands up in despair.

But that’s not how we operate. We’re not going to give up. We’re not going to claim defeat.

The Australian bushfires are a sobering reminder of what's at stake and a chilling preview of what's to come if we don't take decisive, immediate action to curb climate change. But, I remain optimistic — because we know exactly what we need to do to avert a climate meltdown and we're not going to stop fighting.

Solutions already exist and are becoming more widespread. For example, clean energy is booming and by 2021 renewable energy will surpass coal in electricity generation.

Now, we just need to turbocharge what we know works.

We must keep harnessing the power of the wind and the sun, and using energy more efficiently. We must keep vigilantly defending our last remaining old-growth forests and public lands from industrial development. We must keep ensuring solutions to our climate crisis are just and equitable. We must keep dramatically slashing carbon pollution from power plants, cars, trucks and other sources. And that's just the start.

It's our mission — and our responsibility — to continue putting these solutions into practice. And that's exactly what NRDC's comprehensive 2020 Climate Action Plan seeks to do.
