Brothers, Sisters, and Siblings,

Governor Greg Abbott delivered his State of the State address last night – and as expected his agenda is focused on dividing our state and ignores the needs of working Texans and their families.

Instead of focusing on making healthcare coverage affordable and accessible, increasing pay for public school teachers and support staff, enacting gun safety laws to protect our children and our workplaces from violence, and finding ways to address our changing climate while creating a new generation of good paying union jobs, we heard misplaced priorities that feed into an extremist space that have nothing to do with what working Texans deserve.

Abbott and state leadership have failed working Texans time and time again, but we can’t let him stand in the way of progress any longer. That’s why the Texas AFL-CIO is leading the fight for change.
