project to fight + fund everywhere!

Does it seem like every morning when you crack open your inbox, you've got 200 new emails with the subject line “Humbly asking”?
Or explaining some urgent fundraising deadline?
We hear ya.
That's not what Blue Texas is about. We do things differently, and thought you might wonder how, and why, and whether you should join. So, here goes! *cracks knuckles*
#1: Community
First off, we’re a community . We get together monthly (virtually, so that no matter where you live you can join in) and help you stay up to date. Life moves fast. Politics moves faster. Staying in-the-know is next to impossible these days, and we do our best to stay in touch and make your life easier.
#2: Focus
Second, our mission is 100% on funding permanent voter protection and Democratic nominees for state legislature. We do one thing, and we do it well. That means we’re super collaborative – not competitive – with other organizations you love that are doing complementary but different things.
We’re proud to amplify great things that other organizations are doing, rather than reinventing the wheel they’ve already built.

#3: Tips-Supported
Third, Blue Texas doesn’t take a dime of your donation to support itself; 100% of your donation goes to power permanent voter protection and to Democratic nominees. We grow and sustain this project based on tips alone (hint: please leave one if you can!).
#4: NO Middle Person!
Fourth, and similarly, your donation dollars go directly to supporting Power the Vote’s permanent voter protection projects and to the Democratic nominees. There’s no middle person – so you know your donation is going to the folks you intend it to go to, and the ones that need it the most.
#5: "Bottom-Up Bathtub" Method of Funding
Fifth… on that point … your donation to the nominees really and truly does go to those who need it the most. As far as we know, we’re the only group that’s focusing specifically on the folks that are being left behind using our unique “bottom-up bathtub” method.
Here’s how that works. We look at the campaign finance reports after the primary, and distribute funding first to those who have raised the least. We continue distributing funding from the bottom up – raising everyone's "water level" until we've exhausted all our funds. That not only makes sure TX nominees for state legislature have resources, it also encourages potential nominees to run in the first place!

#6: Data-Backed Impact
Sixth, we have data that running and funding everywhere drives turnout and Democratic vote share . In 2020 we conducted a study and found that just having a Democrat on the ballot increases vote share for the top of the ticket by 1.5%.
But funding matters too; another study found that funding nominees at $0.36 per eligible voter (which in TX is ~$45k for a state house district) led to a 1% increase in voter turnout.
Bottom line? When we leave districts uncontested and nominees unsupported, we’re leaving votes on the table.
All this to say...
Our Blue Texas community is different.
We’re a community that focuses on supporting voter protection and state legislative nominees – but in doing so amplifies other great organizations and individuals, encourages Democrats to run for office, gets them the resources they need to turn out voters, makes sure those voters’ votes are counted, and builds infrastructure for the long term.
It’s a win, win, win, win…. Well. You get the point.
