The Foundation for Child Development Announces the Departure of
Vice President Dr. Sara Vecchiotti

New York, NY — The Foundation for Child Development (the Foundation) announced today that Vice President Dr. Sara Vecchiotti will be departing the Foundation after nearly eight years of leadership for an exciting new venture in the early childhood landscape.
Dr. Vecchiotti joined the Foundation in 2015 as Chief Program Officer and became Vice President, Research and Program Innovation prior to her current role. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Vecchiotti was instrumental in developing and implementing a shift in the Foundation’s strategic grantmaking, goals, and communications strategies. She has been a keen collaborator in increasing the Foundation’s racial, social, and economic justice agenda for the early care and education (ECE) workforce and related state policy initiatives. Her leadership and role as a thought partner to former President and CEO Dr. Jacqueline Jones led to the development and implementation of the Foundation’s current programmatic strategy focused on innovative strategies to improve the status of the workforce, especially their professional preparation, compensation, and development.
“Working at the intersection of research, policy, and practice to advance the Foundation’s mission, Dr. Vecchiotti leveraged implementation research to strengthen the early care and education workforce and supported state and local policymakers’ efforts to improve the workforce’s status, preparation, and compensation,” said President and CEO Dr. Vivian Tseng. “We are sad to bid her farewell but tremendously excited for her as she begins a new chapter in this important work. We look forward to continuing to work with her as a colleague in improving early education across the country.”
In addition to being passionate about the transformative role early educators play in the lives of young children, Dr. Vecchiotti was also pivotal in the Foundation’s support of scholarship for early-career researchers. She was vital in the reenvisioning of the Foundation’s Young Scholars Program and the launch of its newest component, the Promising Scholars Program. She had a key role in the Foundation’s contribution to the creation of the national early childhood funder collaborative known as the Early Educator Investment Collaborative, the New York City Early Childhood Research Network, a research-practice partnership that focuses on actionable early childhood research and policy, and the publication, Getting it Right: Using Implementation Research to Improve Outcomes in Early Care and Education.
“It has been an honor to contribute to the work of the Foundation in achieving its mission,” said Dr. Vecchiotti. “It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with our grantees, stakeholders, and our funder partners to move forward an important research-policy-practice agenda for the ECE field. I am also grateful for the thought partnership and dedication of the Foundation staff whose commitment to the work is unparalleled. I look forward to the Foundation’s continued success.”
Dr. Vecchiotti will depart the Foundation on March 2, 2023.
