PROGRAM UPDATES:
Shelter Aid:

Last week, we got a visit from a group of Chinese exchange high school students and their director, Sabrina Chang, from the 'Yes! Club of Murrieta/Temecula'. They delivered over 100 wrapped gifts to our office for the children in our over 15 supported migrant shelters.

They also donated some funds to our Shelter Aid program, to help pay for food and groceries at the shelters. The Yes! Club also visited our Pro Amore Dei and other Tijuana shelters last year and personally delivered over 100 backpacks and numerous school supplies, toys, and other items.

We are so grateful to count on their continued support!

If you or your group/school/club etc. would like to volunteer with Border Angels, email us at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected])

Day Laborer Outreach:

A huge thank you to Carmen, Mujeres Brewhouse, and everyone who came out to support our “It’s a Labor of Love” fundraiser to support our Day Laborer Outreach program this Valentine’s Day. It was a chilly day and yet that didn’t stop our supporters from helping us raise funds to buy day laborers some new gear! Congrats to all of our lucky raffle winners.

Our t-shirts are still available for purchase through our website in sizes S-XL. You can also donate to our DLO program here ([link removed]) .

You can signup for the next Day Laborer Outreach by emailing our coordinator Ana at [email protected].

We can’t wait to see you all at our next event.
The last of Title 42 Exemptions
[link removed]

We received some thank you videos of the last people we were able to help present and the border through Title 42 exemptions! We are so grateful for the support and coordination of Psicologos Sin Fronteras B.C. for helping present thousands of asylum seekers and helping them cross safely into the US.

Thank You Joanna

We want to give a huge thanks to Johanna with Artiva Biotheraputics, a biotech company working in the oncology space in Sorrento Valley. She held a donation drive for our Shelter Aid program and drove over to stop off some blankets, comforters and other new cold-wear items. We are so grateful for her support.

If you would like to donate items for our Shelter Aid program you can reach out to us at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

News Spotlight:

More Mexicans are dying in their attempts to reach San Diego from Tijuana
More Mexican nationals are dying along the U.S.-Mexico border between the San Diego and Tijuana regions in their attempt to enter the U.S. than in previous years, according to new data from the Mexican Consulate in San Diego.

From October 2021 through September 2022, at least 46 Mexican nationals died in their attempt to cross the border between the two regions. That’s up from 34 in the previous twelve months and 11 in the year before that. The data from the consulate runs from October to September, aligning with the federal fiscal year.

Dehydration, drownings and border wall-related fatalities all account for the increases in deaths. The majority of injuries documented were related to falls from the U.S.-Mexico border wall and ranged from brain damage to broken shoulders, backs and legs.

Migrants seeking US sponsors find questionable offers online
Pedro Yudel Bruzon was looking for someone in the U.S. to support his effort to seek asylum when he landed on a Facebook page filled with posts demanding up to $10,000 for a financial sponsor.

It’s part of an underground market that’s emerged since the Biden administration announced it would accept 30,000 immigrants each month arriving by air from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti. Applicants for the humanitarian parole program need someone in the U.S., often a friend or relative, to promise to provide financial support for at least two years.

It’s unclear how many people in the United States may have charged migrants to sponsor them, but Facebook groups with names like “Sponsors U.S.” carry dozens of posts offering and seeking financial supporters.
