Join in to celebrate the King's Coronation

We’re planning to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III in a big way and we want you to join us!

Plans are in place to make sure Oldhamers have a weekend of fun, with activities for all the family, including a town centre festival with a big screen to watch the Coronation live from London, and support for local community street parties across the borough.

The Coronation takes place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May, followed by a live concert at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May - with acts still set to be announced. A Bank Holiday will then be held on Monday 8 May, when people will be encouraged to volunteer as part of the national "Big Help Out."

More details about how to apply for street party grants will be available once confirmed.

Royal couple to be remembered in borough’s parks

We are paying tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, by planting roses named after them.

Over the coming weeks and months council staff will plant 20 roses at specially prepared flower beds in 23 of our public green spaces – providing a long-lasting tribute to the Royal couple.

In a further tribute to the late monarch, an Oak tree has been planted in Alexandra Park.

Budget proposals update

Councillors have been given further updates on our budget plans for the coming financial year.

Cabinet was told more details about how more than £29m of savings will be found.

For the last few months members and council staff have been working hard to balance the books – despite facing added pressures, such as rising fuel costs, the cost-of-living crisis and a greater demand for services, mainly in the areas of adults and children’s social care.

At the same time, we also need to ensure it can invest in regeneration schemes, such as the town centre redevelopment, which will help create jobs and boost the local economy

Have your say on planned hospital services and waiting lists

Are you currently on a hospital waiting list and are interested in how planned hospital services work?

Hospitals provide many services for people from non-urgent care, planned hospital care (referred to as elective care services) through to life-threatening conditions.
Greater Manchester was one of the areas hardest hit by COVID-19 and this has impacted on waiting lists for planned hospital care.

Anyone can answer this survey, whether you are currently on a waiting list or not.
