Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), $60 billion in federal spending has been allocated towards advancing environmental justice efforts. John, this year will be a critical one to taking major strides in environmental justice work.
Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), $60 billion in federal spending has been allocated towards advancing environmental justice efforts. This is the single-largest investment ever focused on closing the gap between racial and socioeconomic disparities in infrastructure and climate resilience.
Here’s just a few of the major initiatives to tackle in the fight for environmental justice this year:
Monitoring whether or not the new federal policies and investments will actually make it to low-income families and communities of color, where pollution meets the climate crisis frontlines.
Implementing the Justice40 Initiative, which directs federal agencies to deliver 40 percent of the overall benefits of their environmental and energy investments to disadvantaged communities.
Ensuring tribal communities have a seat at the table for projects planned on tribal lands.
Pass the Environmental Justice for All Act – a bill introduced by SEEC Member Rep. Raúl Grijalva and the late SEEC Vice Chair Rep. A. Donald McEachin. Passing this bill immediately will both honor Rep. McEachin’s legacy, and set the U.S. on a path to realizing the universal rights to clean air and water for everyone, once and for all.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
