Friend,

Here's the good news: Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, there are billions of dollars available for states to reduce pollution, cut costs for families, and create good-paying jobs by investing in clean energy.

Here's the even better news: States are rising to the moment.

Battleground governors like Gretchen Whitmer, Tony Evers, and Michelle Lujan Grisham campaigned and won on climate. Now, voters expect their state leaders to deliver on those promises. Many are: We've seen a growing trend of states raising the bar on ambitious clean energy standards in just the last few weeks.

With its 100% clean energy standard just signed into law, Minnesota is a prime example. That's why I'm so excited to share Evergreen's recent conversation with Michael Noble and Rep. Jamie Long about this game-changing legislation—check it out!

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Across the nation, states are preparing to funnel billions of dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act directly into climate action and committing to even more ambitious standards:

New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposed phasing out on-site fossil fuel combustion in new buildings coupled with nation-leading appliance standards to prohibit the sale of fossil fuel heating equipment.
Governor Phil Murphy announced New Jersey will bump their 100% clean electricity standard up to 2035—15 years earlier than their current plan.
Governor Janet Mills also announced her intention to bump Maine's clean electricity standard from 80% by 2035 to 100% by 2040.
Rhode Island now requires the state's electricity be offset by renewable energy by 2033.
This progress is heartening. But I'll level with you: Our work is not done yet. To meet the magnitude of the climate crisis and build the just, thriving clean energy future we all deserve, we need states to rapidly and aggressively build on this momentum.

That's why Evergreen is pushing states to adopt clean car standards, electrify buildings, effectively and equitably deploy new federal funds, and enact clean energy standards.

We outline exactly how they can do that in our first-of-its-kind guide to "Unlocking the IRA"—read and share it with your networks today, and we'll keep winning our clean energy future step by step, state by state.
