Hi John,
We read headlines about losing Republican candidates trying to overturn elections, and we don't think it will happen here. But, it just did!
Voting rights are under attack by Republicans in Morris County. In Mendham Township, the losing Republican tried to disenfranchise 33 voters, mostly under the age of 30. During a brief trial last week, losing candidate Baio's attorney offered no credible evidence, and so they requested a voluntary dismissal. And, in Pequannock, the losing Board of Education candidates tried to throw out 270 mail-in-ballots cast by Democrats living in the senior community of Cedar Crest! In an election contest, they attacked the Cedar Crest Democratic Club; the Pequannock Democratic Committee; and Morris County Democratic Committee. A judge dismissed the case in a 32-page opinion.
Democracy won the day, but we can't rest on this success!
This reckless attack mirrors what we have seen at the national level, and we must be prepared to fight back. We need to support voting rights and prevent further expensive election challenges all across Morris County. We must protect young voters and encourage their participation. We need to ensure running for office is accessible to all, without the intimidation of baseless court battles. Help us defend voting rights for all!
Join us for a cocktail fundraiser at the award-winning Jockey Hollow restaurant. The evening features Kimberly Yonta, past President of the New Jersey Bar Association, and attorney Addison O'Donnell, one of the "Mendham 33" falsely accused voters who will share his experiences.
