Dear Friend --

Visiting Hiroshima is a life-changing event. When a person has the chance to see the first city attacked with an atomic bomb, and meet those who miraculously lived through that horrific day, they can’t help but be moved to prevent any use of nuclear weapons, ever again.

So when the leaders of the G7 meet in Hiroshima in May 2023, at a time of increased risk of nuclear war, they will have a responsibility to tell the world what real actions they will take to end this grave threat to humanity once and for all. And we will need to make sure they feel the pressure to do so.

That is why we’re excited to announce that ICAN, in cooperation with the Center for Peace, Hiroshima University, will hold a major Youth Summit in Hiroshima <[link removed]> in advance of the meeting, to bring together young people from these countries to challenge their leaders on these policies that support nuclear weapons. The Hiroshima G7 Youth Summit will take place on 25-27 April at the Hiroshima University campus, and we are inviting young people from around the world to apply!

For participants, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to embrace and amplify the message of hope and nuclear weapons resistance embodied in Hiroshima. They will meet with survivors, visit Hiroshima, learn about the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons from experts, and work together to influence the position of their governments and connect with others in advance of the G7 summit.

When these seven leaders meet in the first city to have been devastated by an atomic bomb, they should feel that the world - and particularly the youth who’s future they are meant to secure - will be watching.
