Folks — I often ask you: “What issues keep you and your family up at night?” or “What issues are top of mind for you?”

But, for a moment, I’d like to share what issues resonate with me as a mother of two kids. This will be a longer email so if you’re crunched for time, all that I ask is you chip in to help me fight in Congress for the best possible future for our kids.

I have a daughter, Nevada, who will soon graduate college, and I am determined to make the change that she wishes to see in our country. But, one thing I didn’t anticipate is that she would graduate with fewer rights than I had in college.

With Roe v. Wade having been overturned by the far-right Supreme Court, I’m more determined than ever to protect reproductive rights from Republicans’ continued attacks. The government has no place controlling women’s bodies, and the next generation of women need to know that we won’t stand for it.

I also have a son, Cody, whose high school graduation is coming far too fast for my liking! I want him to be able to pursue his dreams and get a well-paying job with good benefits.

As a strong education advocate, it’s why I’ve supported expanding opportunities for apprenticeships and trade schools. The next generation of workers should feel confident entering the workforce knowing that reliable, good-paying jobs are accessible no matter if they have a bachelor’s degree or a trade certificate.

And one lingering existential threat puts at risk everything we care about: climate change.

We’ve seen it here in Nevada with Lake Mead’s historic drought. And those thunderstorms that have become more intense and frequent across the region aren’t a coincidence. They are symptoms of our warming climate.

My work on climate change in Congress has been two-fold: preventing its most devastating impacts, and helping communities adapt by shoring up their access to clean water. Left unchecked, Nevada could be one of the states hardest-hit by climate change. I refuse to leave our children a home that’s less livable than the one we have today.

There’s so much work left to be done to ensure that we’ve set the next generation up for success.

Unfortunately, Republicans are working around the clock to obstruct our progress in the House. But I won’t let that stop me, and I hope you’ll join me in fighting back.

If you’re with me, I’m asking you to please chip in as much as you can afford today. Your contribution will help me reach my mid-month goal and continue the fight for the next generation in Congress.
