Did you know one of the first civil rights parade was held over 105 years ago? The Silent Parade of 1917 was led by the NAACP, churches, and community leaders in New York City to protest the racism and discrimination Black people faced. Students will look at pictures of the parade and discuss questions such as "How have methods of civil rights activism changed or stayed the same over time?" Use this lesson to help your students to discover how this event relates to the Founding principles of liberty, equality, and justice.
