Elections Daily has released its first set of ratings for the 2023 Virginia Senate elections and there’s good news and bad news.

Here’s the good news: Democrats' path to 20 seats in the Senate is straightforward.

But here’s the bad news: 20 seats won’t cut it. GOP Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears holds the tie-breaking vote, so Democrats need 21 seats to keep the majority, and winning that 21st seat is going to be tough.

Don’t get us wrong: tough doesn’t mean impossible. It just means that we’re going to need everyone to chip in and do their part. Chip in today to help us protect the majority in the Virginia Senate! [[link removed]]

Whether that’s volunteering for campaigns, donating to the DPVA, or working in your communities to get out the vote, putting in the time and effort to win these critical elections is going to be one of the most important things Virginia Democrats do this year.

Don’t forget — the only reason that Glenn Youngkin and the VA GOP have been unsuccessful in their quest to ban abortion and force regressive education policies on Virginians is our Senate Democrats’ brick wall.
