Norfolk-Southern, the company responsible for the spill, has silenced whistleblowers, refused to take basic safety measures, slashed staffing to a bare minimum, denied their workers the dignity of sick days, and even authorized a $10 billion stock buyback giveaway to shareholders while neglecting to do desperately needed maintenance.
Of course, it's not the billionaire shareholders, but working families facing the horrific consequences of their failure — and Norfolk Southern can count on a complicit corporate media primarily owned by the same banks to shield them from meaningful consequences.
