Aloha Friend,
Climate change and its impact on our environment will affect our economy and our way of life in Hawaii.
That’s why protecting our environment and taking action on climate change is a top priority for Governor Josh Green.
Governor Green announced his plan to provide $100 million for a climate impact fund steered by the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission.
This fund will help guide investment in the resiliency of our power grid, renewable energy, sustainable transportation, land use planning, sea level rise, health, natural and cultural resource impacts, and much more.
The governor also made additional budget requests to the Legislature this week to protect our environment and take action on climate, including:
- $25 million for the Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund to provide financing for clean energy technology and infrastructure projects statewide
- $6.2 million for watershed protection across our state
- $4 million to construct and repair deep monitor wells statewide, including monitoring the health of the drinking water aquifers
Governor Green has also convened a special oversight committee on Red Hill and statewide water issues, including officials from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, the military, and leaders on environmental health.
This group will monitor the progress on the Red Hill timeline and provide regular public updates and status reports to ensure that the tanks at Red Hill are drained and closed as quickly and safely as possible.
Addressing climate change and protecting our environment are two of the most urgent challenges we face in Hawaii.
That’s why Governor Josh Green is taking action every day to make a difference on these issues.
As always, thank you for your support and for being an important member of Team Green.
Mahalo for your support,
Team Green
