John —

The headlines are shocking — but if you can imagine, what I've seen during my time in Türkiye is even more heartbreaking.

No report can fully capture the loss, pain, and ongoing crisis happening on the ground. Over 41,000 people have lost their lives near the Syria–Türkiye border, making this the deadliest earthquake in both countries in modern history.

Fortunately, thanks to your fellow IRC supporters who have rushed emergency support, we have begun our cash distribution program and launched several mobile health clinics. But the need is immeasurable and compounding by the hour. John, will you please make a gift to support our response efforts?

P.S. I wanted to share some photos I took this week during my visit to Gaziantep, one of the cities in Türkiye most impacted by the earthquake. Many of the people I met are living in tents, in need of immediate resources, and are struggling to figure out what is next.

Over 45,000 buildings have been destroyed or heavily damaged, like the one pictured above.
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the IRC?

A: Founded at the call of physicist, humanitarian — and refugee — Albert Einstein, for nearly 90 years, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has helped people affected by humanitarian crises — including the climate crisis — to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. We deliver lasting impact in over 40 crisis–affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas. We provide health care, help children learn, address gender inequality, and empower both individuals and communities to become self–reliant.

Q: How does my gift make an impact?

A: Your support powers our humanitarian work at a time when more than 100 million people are uprooted by crisis worldwide. At the IRC, we pride ourselves on our efficiency and our innovative approach to monitoring and evaluating our programs. 87% of all funds raised directly support our programs and services.

Q: What is the benefit of making a monthly gift?

A: Making a monthly gift to the IRC is a convenient way to support our important humanitarian work year–round. Monthly donors help organizations like ours focus more of our resources on programs — the consistency they provide allows us to plan ahead and to focus our efforts on reaching as many people in need as we can.
