It's important for each of us to reflect on our role in the ongoing fight for racial justice. During Black History Month it’s especially critical we reflect on the multiracial democracy we dream of one day seeing.
Key steps we can take include normalizing conversations that address systemic racism, operationalizing equity in our policies and practices, and organizing with other racial justice advocates while building a shared vision.
Start or continue your work by attending one of our upcoming Racial Justice Trainings
Building Racial Equity (BRE) (Virtual and in-person)
Building Racial Equity is the foundational training of the series.* This session introduces participants to concepts and tools that are essential to having a racial justice lens. Attendees will learn the importance of challenging and changing institutional racial inequities.
*Completing the BRE Foundations training is a requirement for attending other trainings
Decision-Making for Racial Equity (DRE) (Virtual, February 21)
The Decision-Making for Racial Equity training provides a framework that seeks to disrupt dominant forms of decision-making that can perpetuate racial bias. Through use of Race Forward’s Racial Equity Decision-Making Tool (RED Tool), participants will be guided through building an organization-wide racial equity decision-making practice and culture. Practices will center Black, Latinx, Asian American, Indigenous, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander staff and communities.
Governing for Racial Equity (GRE) (Virtual, March 23)
Governing for Racial Equity provides government employees with an introduction to the role, responsibilities, and opportunities for government to advance racial equity. The training focuses on normalizing racial equity as a core value, operationalizing racial equity. Participants will gain awareness of the history of race, individual, institutional, and structural racism, implicit and explicit bias and how these impact the workplace.
Facilitating Racial Equity (FRE) (Virtual, April 10, 11, and 14)
Facilitating Racial Equity gives a behind-the-scenes view of how racial equity workshops are structured, built, and delivered. From this training, participants will be more familiar with the practice of equity-focused facilitation, naming social dynamics, and guiding group learning.
