Two years ago, when I arrived to lead the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump, I knew I had a serious job to do.

I was there to pursue justice for the attack on our democracy on January 6th, and in doing so, I made history by becoming the first impeachment manager to represent a U.S. territory.

Now, I’m the leading Democrat on the Weaponization of Government Subcommittee where I’m going head-to-head against GOP investigations being led by Jim Jordan.

I still remember standing there during Trump’s second impeachment trial as the only Black woman in the Senate chamber and thinking to myself what it would mean for little girls to see me on their TV or in their history books. It was an honor that came with enormous responsibility.

And now, thanks to the heroic work of the January 6th Committee and testimony from key witnesses, we can all see what happened that day for what it is and what I said all along: An attempt to undercut our democracy and defy the rule of law.

But the threat that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies pose is still very much alive. In fact, they now have more power over Congress and investigations than they ever have before. We’ve defeated Trump before, and we can do it again. But we need a groundswell of Democratic support in order to mount our defenses and ensure he is defeated.
