Friends,
My top priority in Congress is to lower the cost of your health care. I have heard from too many Iowans who have been forced into debt due to medical bills, don’t have access to lifesaving care, or have to choose between paying for their prescription drugs or putting food on the table. Every Iowan and American deserves access to affordable, quality health care.
As a member of the Health Care Task Force, I’m working on practical, bipartisan policies to improve our healthcare system. In my first six months in office, I’m proud to have voted to lower the cost of prescription drugs, voted to ensure protections for Iowans with pre-existing conditions and introduced bipartisan legislation to provide relief for our rural hospitals.
I’m proud to announce that last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation I co-sponsored that would permanently repeal a provision within the Affordable Care Act that would raise premium prices on Iowa families. The Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act of 2019 would permanently repeal the 40 percent excise tax on the most expensive employer-provided health insurance plans, known as the ‘Cadillac Tax.’
Without delaying this tax, hardworking Iowa families could see lower wages or higher health care costs. Repealing this tax permanently will provide stability in the marketplace and ensure permanent relief for working families and Iowa seniors.
I've said from day one that the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect. I will continue to work with Democrats and Republicans in order to find bipartisan solutions to shore up the Affordable Care Act and lower the cost of premiums and copays that empty workers’ wallets.
Thanks,
Cindy
