No More “Grimace-and-Bera”
Hello Sacramento County voter,
Seven months ago, I launched my Democratic candidacy to represent California’s 7th Congressional District the right way. This meant taking the most principled fundraising pledge in the nation and launching the Good Campaign Oath to improve our election ethics. This also led to issuing two very important challenges to my main opponent, Rep. Ami Bera.
The first came when I asked Bera to take the Good Campaign Oath with me. This includes pledging to avoid all deceptive, misleading campaign practices. Bera didn’t respond then. So it didn’t surprise when we recently discovered blatantly misleading information on Bera’s campaign home page that deceptively touts an old Sac Bee endorsement. And despite two weeks of constituent complaints and media inquiries, he’s refused to correct his home page.
My second challenge came when I found Dr. Bera has taken nearly $50,000 in tainted donations from America’s largest and most-sued opioid makers and distributors. With Sacramento County’s opioid death rate twice the state average, I’m passionate about breaking Big Pharma’s grip on Congress that has only deepened this crisis. I instantly asked Dr. Bera to donate that money to local addiction recovery programs, but Dr. Bera ignored this. Two months later, we challenged him again in a local newspaper ad, and again: crickets.
So why does Rep. Bera refuse to do the right thing? Why does he mislead his own voters? And why take stained opioid money that’s an affront to both common decency and his Hippocratic Oath?
Whatever the explanation, here’s the great news. In the past with no alternatives to keep our district Blue, many of us had to be “Grimace-and-Bera” voters. But that’s changed with my principled, True Blue candidacy. And with no chance for the district to turn Republican (with 25% more registered Democrats), I just need your help to finish a solid second in the March 3rd primary. Then I can go one-on-one this fall against Bera.
So please help however you can in the last weeks of this primary. Request a lawn sign, share my social media posts, and donate want you can. Here’s a link on ways to help, and thank you for the history we’re about to make!!
