Dear friend,

It's not too late to submit comments on a proposed Bureau of Prisons (BOP) rule that would mean less money for those in prison who need it most. Here is more info on how to submit your comment: [link removed] [[link removed]]

The BOP is proposing to automatically put 75% of money sent from family members to people in prison towards restitution, court costs, child support, or other obligations — no matter the amount, and no matter how much these individuals have in their accounts. If your loved one has court-ordered financial obligations that have not been met, and you send them $100, only $25 will be deposited in their account.

We believe this rule is too broad and punishes the wrong people. We have submitted our own comments to the BOP advocating for a policy that is fairer for most incarcerated people and their families. We shared with the BOP that we think the current proposed policy is inequitable, arbitrary and capricious, and not supported by the First Step Act.

Please join us in submitting comments on these proposed changes—the more people the BOP hears from, the more likely we can help create a better policy! We've created a form to make comment submission simple for you, which you can access here: [link removed] [[link removed]]

Thank you for taking the time to share your stories with the BOP.

Best,
