P.E.I. paramedic union, Island EMS have reached a tentative agreement

The union representing P.E.I. paramedics has reached a tentative agreement with Island EMS.
CUPE Local 3324, which represents all Island paramedics, announced the agreement on Monday, Feb. 13. Next, the union will present the tentative agreement to its members for a ratification vote.

Paramedic changes on Wolfe Island expected to spark 'firestorm'

Frontenac County politicians are bracing themselves for a “firestorm” from Wolfe Island residents following draft changes to paramedic service on the island. In its budget deliberations this week, county council agreed to changes that may remove an eight-hour staffed paramedic shift and 16 hours of on-call service from the island.

Concerns raised after local man dies on Nakusp's hospital doorstep

Interior Health and BC’s ambulance service say they are reviewing an incident where a Nakusp man died late last month on the doorstep of Arrow Lakes Hospital.
“Whenever an event like this occurs, the staff and administration will review to learn if there was anything that we could do to improve, and that is occurring in this situation,” says Lannon De Best, executive director of clinical operations for the Kootenay-Boundary district of Interior Health.

Simcoe County paramedics are accustomed to helping save lives, so the loss of one of their own is hitting especially hard.
Marianne Orsan, who served as a professional standards supervisor with the county-wide paramedic service, died in her sleep at home on Monday, Feb. 6, less than two weeks shy of her 44th birthday, according to an online obituary, which described her five-year duel with metastatic breast cancer as “extraordinary.”

Grand Manan residents frustrated as military helicopter summoned again for hospital transport

Another military helicopter was called in to transport a patient from Grand Manan, N.B., as the island continues to deal with the loss of its local air ambulance service.
A Cormorant helicopter from CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia was dispatched to the island late Friday afternoon to transport a patient to the Saint John Regional Hospital, according to Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Halifax.

Report: Expect TBM paramedic calls to nearly double in 10 years

Representatives from The Blue Mountains have questioned Grey County’s projected growth in paramedic calls in their community over the next 10 years.
At its meeting on Feb. 9, county council received a report from ORH (Operational Research in Health Limited) that outlined expected growth in demand for the service over the next decade.

Local EMS workers vote unanimously in favour of strike

Weary of staff shortages and heavy job demands, Essex-Windsor EMS paramedics have voted 100 per cent in favour of a strike. Negotiations to date for the paramedics, represented by CUPE Local 2974, have been unsuccessful, so workers voted unanimously to support strike action.
