Dear John,

As an organisation of health workers, activists and community members, we have been working to tackle the devastating impact of malaria for years.

We are proudly part of Laos’s health movement which seeks to eradicate malaria by 2030. We know that this will not happen unless those often excluded from mainstream healthcare services and practices are included.

We support the government to distribute personal protection packages, including nets and insecticides, to migrant and mobile populations. We also support local malaria workers to develop awareness messages in local ethnic languages, reaching 62,000 people, so everyone can protect themselves from contracting malaria.

In one year, Health Poverty Action provided 400 village malaria workers with refresher training on general knowledge, tests, and treatment. These workers conduct nearly 40,000 malaria tests annually, with 97% of those diagnosed with malaria being referred for treatment.

This vital work contributed to a 40% reduction in malaria cases between 2018 and 2021.

Together, we are ensuring that strategies to eradicate malaria include everyone while strengthening Laos’s health system to better support people with malaria.

We are extremely proud to play a part in this effort and thank you for all your contributions.

In solidarity,

Siaffa Bunduka
