How DNA and cell phone evidence in Idaho murders complied with the Fourth AmendmentDid the police violate the Fourth Amendment rights of the man accused of slaying four college students in Idaho? Much has been made of the fact that authorities relied, in part, on genetic genealogy and DNA evidence to justify the arrest warrants in this case. But the use of such technology, and the way it was likely used in this case, was lawful, as was the use of cell site location information (CSLI) used to track the movement of the suspect’s phone. Ohio Train Derailment Disaster Reinforces Need For More Pipelines - This frightening incident should lead us to reexamine our pipeline priorities. Although the chemicals on the train could not move by pipeline, pipelines are used for natural gas and petroleum—and we need more of them. Pipelines are the safest way to transport oil and natural gas because the pipeline stays still and the gas moves, away from people, with little risk of accident. New technology shows pipeline operators if there is a pinhole leak in a pipe, and sophisticated pressure gauges can signal if oil pressure is declining. Heritage Expert: Diana Furchtgott-Roth

The big school choice turnaround in Iowa that more states should follow - The Student First Act will provide Iowa families education saving accounts (ESAs) that they can use for private school tuition, tutoring, textbooks, curricular materials, and a variety of other education expenses. The ESAs, funded with a portion of the state's per-pupil spending, are worth about $7,600 annually. That more than covers the average private elementary school tuition in Iowa (about $5,400) and nearly covers the average private high school tuition (about $9,200). Heritage Expert: Jason Bedrick

Five Years After Parkland, Florida’s Measured Response Is An OutlierFive years ago today, on February 14, 2018, a teen gunman walked into the halls of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and murdered 17 people. The shooting was all the more tragic for the several layers of official failure surrounding it. There were far too many missed warning signs that should have resulted in intervention, and a bungled emergency response that led to far more deaths and injuries than should have been possible.  Heritage Expert: Amy Swearer

Welcome to Sanctuary City! Feds, pay upMost recently, Biden has abused his parole authority. The Immigration and Nationality Act expressly limits using this power to deal with individual cases. Yet Biden is applying it to entire nationalities, allowing tens of thousands of immigrants a month into the country without visas, vetting or voter approval. Several states have sued, arguing that the parole “pathways” policy unconstitutionally usurps congressional authority over immigration matters. This could drag on for years. Censorship and Collusion: House Judiciary Subpoenas Big Tech CEOs for Answers - The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed five Big Tech executives to produce documents by late March about collusion with federal government agencies to suppress free speech. “To develop effective legislation, such as the possible enactment of new statutory limits on the Executive Branch’s ability to work with Big Tech to restrict the circulation of content and deplatform users, the Committee on the Judiciary must first understand how and to what extent the Executive Branch coerced and colluded with companies and other intermediaries to censor speech,” the letters from Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, to the CEOs say. Biden: If you want our help, you must accept our gender ideology - Beneath its euphemisms, gender ideology is irrational, destructive and anti-human. Nevertheless, the left is trying to bully and confuse Americans into accepting it. Heritage Expert: Grace Melton

Babies aren’t disposable, at any stage - So, what’s the big deal? The Pro-Life movement, accused of “forced pregnancies” and rejecting a “woman’s right to choose,” should endorse any method that leads to the birth of children, right? Not so fast. As Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life argues, “The issue was not whether we want people to create families (we’re the pro-life movement—we love babies) but whether creating disposable children, a common event with IVF, is a good idea.” They are “disposable” babies due to common IVF practices like embryo destruction, freezing, genetic testing, and genetic editing.
