Run for Something

Happy anniversary!!

Three years ago yesterday, Ross and I launched Run for Something, and thanks to you, it’s become something greater than we’d ever imagined: We’ve elected 303 people to local office across 45 states (55% women, 50% people of color, 18% LGBTQ, and all 40 or younger.) And we did it by spending just ~$15,000 per winner.

More broadly:

  • 45,000+ people have raised their hands and told us they’re interested in running. (Some of the folks on the ballot this year signed up with us in that first week back in 2017! Can you believe it?)
  • Our next round of endorsements will bring us to more than 1,000 endorsed candidates; it’s entirely possible we double that lifetime number in 2020 alone.
  • Our candidates have been parents, veterans, scientists, artists, refugees, nurses, farmers, retail workers, immigrants, teenagers, social workers, activists, musicians, and nearly every other occupation or identity you can imagine.
  • Our alum have expanded health care to 400,000 Virginians, ratified the ERA, banned LGBT conversion therapy, ended racist hair discrimination, made it easier for people to vote, lowered the cost of insulin, fought for women’s right to choose, created sanctuary cities, and more.
  • In three years, our alum have already moved up the ladder -- and many are running for higher office this year and next. Fun fact: Michigan Lieutenant Gov Garlin Gilchrist II was the first candidate we ever endorsed, back when he ran to be Detroit City Clerk.

I’m so proud of our staff, who has done so much with so little. I’m so proud of our candidates, who are changing the world. And I’m so grateful to you, for making it possible.

This year is make or break for us. With expected record turn out we have a chance to dramatically change who holds power in this country by fielding as many candidates in as many places as possible. If you can make a monthly donation today, set it up. If you can only give $5, that helps too. It all matters. Your support today will help make a difference ASAP, and will build sustainable power for Democrats.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

On a personal note: Thanks for allowing me to have the best job in politics. I get to make a difference and don’t have to feel bummed out 100% of the time. (In fact, dare I say it, I’m more hopeful than ever.)
