School choice programs, like ESAs, help students break through rigid and out-of-touch systems while empowering families with educational freedom and flexibility. The focus should always be on the students, not the system.

The next generation of choice programs will place families in the driver’s seat and help educators operate outside of stultifying bureaucratic systems. With those funds, parents pay or approve educational expenses, including private school tuition, tutoring, online courses, and special education therapies. Best of all, parents can roll over unused funds from one year to the next for future education expenses, including college.

Changing the qualifications for who can vote has an impact on voters who already meet the qualifications. The D.C. Council’s Racial Equity Impact Assessment listed the benefits of the bill as providing non-citizens a “sense of purpose,” “building networks,” and a way to formally “express” their views. City Council members are supposed to currently represent — and the assessment on how it impacts American voters?
