John,
An estimated 3.4 million Americans were forced to leave their homes due to climate-related disasters in 2022, according to new Census Bureau data.
The majority of displaced Americans were uprooted due to severe hurricanes, floods, and wildfires caused by the worsening effects of climate change. Vulnerable populations in states like Louisiana and Florida saw the highest displacement rates.
No one is immune to the effects of climate change. Without immediate action to tackle the climate crisis at its root causes, climate experts warn the number of displaced Americans will only rise.
