Folks,

On February 14, 1929, one of America’s most infamous shootings took place: Seven mafiosos were killed by machine gun fire in the infamous Valentine’s Day Massacre.

And instead of offering thoughts and prayers in response, the 71st Congress stood up and passed sweeping gun control legislation so that such violence wouldn’t happen again.

Let’s compare that to this Valentine’s Day, when we heard the news of another horrific mass shooting in Michigan. Today, Republicans in Washington are back to their usual callous routine of burying their heads in the sand and cashing their checks from the NRA.

How did we get here?

It’s simple: A right-wing SCOTUS and a filthy-rich gun lobby have dragged us completely off the deep end.

First, the gun lobby pours millions into opposing sensible gun laws, electing gun extremists to every level of government, and spreading lies about Democrats’ policies on gun control.

Then, if state or federal leaders do manage to take meaningful action on gun violence despite all of these obstacles, the right-wing majority on the Supreme Court swoops in to guard the gun lobby’s financial interests.

We should have learned the lesson from Chicago almost 100 years ago. If we ban weapons of war, we'll stop getting shot.

Please, , we must hold the weapons industry, the NRA, and their puppet politicians accountable for their deadly greed. Will you add your name to demand that the GOP stop prioritizing the interests of the gun lobby over American lives?
