# [#]In less than two months, there have been nearly 70 mass shootings in America — including just this week at Michigan State University, where three students were killed and five more were injured.

This horrific violence has become all too common in America, but we can never become numb to the pain that every occurrence of gun violence inflicts on individuals, families, and communities across our nation.

Last month, I proposed two common-sense public safety measures to the Washington State Legislature to address gun violence.

The first measure I proposed is a renewed call to ban the sale of military-style assault weapons, which have no place in our civilian lives. Such a ban is overwhelmingly popular in our state. A recent Seattle Times poll showed over 60% support across the state.

My second proposal is new legislation that would require gun manufacturers and retailers to take reasonable steps to prevent their products from getting into the hands of dangerous individuals.

It’s critical that we pass these common-sense safety measures for our children, schools, and communities. If you agree, I hope you’ll sign our petition today. [[link removed]]

Please join me in calling for the swift passage of this common-sense legislation so that we can build a safer state for all Washingtonians.

Thank you,

Bob
