I am writing to you right now from Turkey, just days after the country was riveted by two massive earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks. The death toll is already in the tens of thousands and is rapidly rising. Words cannot begin to describe the devastation that countless people are experiencing right now.

Beyond those who lost their lives, thousands were injured and nearly a million have been displaced in Turkey alone. Overall, approximately 13 million people have been affected. The situation is compounded by severe winter weather, producing snow and freezing temperatures.

In the surrounding area millions of people who were already in need of humanitarian assistance have been traumatized again. A leader within the UN says the situation is adding "catastrophe on top of catastrophe."

I am currently meeting with our local ministry partners to see how we (and you!) can come alongside them at this critical time. They responded to the disaster immediately — many of them sleeping in their cars so they can distribute meals, water, blankets, and other essential aid. One of our local partners said, “There is agony, pain and mourning in every corner!”

At a point when many are experiencing the worst days of their lives, you can resource local partners to come alongside and help. Through the gift of humanitarian aid, you can provide the physical aid that people so desperately need. As relationships are built with local partners, it will lead to the most important opportunity — to share the hope of Jesus.
