Hi John,

You can take legal action to make the prime minister come clean on who spent $6,000 per night on a hotel room in London during the Queen’s funeral.

You paid the bill, you deserve to know who stayed in the room.

We’re hiring an expert lawyer in Ottawa to make a submission to the Information Commissioner and fight this through the courts if necessary. Legal fights aren’t cheap and the initial submission will cost $2,500. But we can’t let the government get away with this.

You can donate to the legal challenge through this secure donation page: https://www.taxpayer.com/campaigns/find-out-who-billed-taxpayers-for-a-6,000-hotel-room

The governor general says she didn’t stay in the $6,000 hotel room. Her entourage racked up a nearly $100,000-bill for airplane food on another trip, but she’s made it clear she wasn’t the one in this luxury hotel room.

We have a pretty strong suspicion as to who stayed in the room, but we can’t make claims that we can’t back up with proof. So the Canadian Taxpayers Federation filed an access to information request to force Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to tell you who stayed in the $6,000 room. Here’s the government’s response:

Governments bend transparency rules all the time. They count on red tape and legal bills to grind you down until you give up. But we can’t let them get away with it this time.

Transparency is a matter of principle.

The feds billed you for a $6,000 per night hotel room. You deserve to know who wasted your money. That’s why the CTF is lawyering up.

Our lawyers love fighting for more transparency. But legal challenges aren’t cheap. We’re budgeting $2,500 for the first challenge with the information commissioner.

Thanks for fighting for taxpayers – it’s making a difference!

Sincerely,

  • Franco, Shannon, Todd and the rest of the CTF team

PS: It’s a good bet the Trudeau government will try to draw the legal challenge out so we’re building our legal war chest now. You can chip in through the secure online donation site:
