We have a chance to make sure that babies nationwide have the resources they need to thrive.

Dear John,

We need to tackle wealth inequality from the very start. Today, we have a chance to help make this happen by investing in babies from birth – through federal Baby Bonds [[link removed]] legislation. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-7) just reintroduced the American Opportunity Accounts Act [[link removed]], which would provide every child, at birth, with the economic resources needed to begin building long-term economic security and generational wealth.

Tell Congress: Support Babies from Birth! [[link removed]]

The American Opportunity Accounts Act would ensure that all children—whatever their economic background—have the resources they need to succeed when they become adults. With this federal Baby Bonds bill, the government would invest money on children’s behalf—with the largest amount going to children from low-income households—so that when they become young adults, they can purchase assets that will grow in value over their lifetimes, such as a home, postsecondary education or a small business.

The median Black and Latinx households have only 12 cents and 21 cents, respectively [[link removed]], in wealth for every dollar of wealth owned by the median White household. Because wealth is largely passed on from one generation to the next, when children start out on an uneven playing field, often the next generation of their families lack wealth too. That then ripples into entire communities being left out of economic opportunity. This bill could be a key ingredient in remedying this injustice by helping close the racial wealth gap.

Would you take just a few minutes to tell your Members of Congress to co-sponsor the American Opportunity Accounts Act? [[link removed]]

To mark the reintroduction of this promising solution, we’ve also put together a toolkit to help your advocacy [[link removed]], John — the toolkit includes sample messages and social media guidance. Check it out here and join us today in spreading the word by using the hashtag #BabyBonds [[link removed]]!

Growing up without wealth limits children’s future opportunities. When people don’t have a foundation of money to build wealth, they don't have a chance to catch up. We believe in a world where everyone—of any race, ethnicity and economic background—can build wealth, allowing us to set up communities to live with dignity and thrive. Are you with us [[link removed]]?

Thank you for all that you do for children and families,

Vanna Cure
