John, The Supreme Court’s January 2010 ruling in Citizens United unleashed unlimited corporate spending in our elections, leading to a new flood of big money dominating our elections and our politics. 2022 saw the most expensive midterm election in history, with about $16.7 billion in spending accounted for thus far. A large amount of corporate spending can be attributed to corporations with significant foreign influence, circumventing federal laws prohibiting foreign nationals from participating in U.S. elections. Sign if you agree: Foreign-influenced corporations should have no say in U.S. elections. The movement to bar foreign-influenced corporations from impacting our elections is underway across the country. Right now, our model legislation is being considered by state legislatures in New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Hawaii, with more states planning to reintroduce bills in the coming months. This can’t just be a state-by-state issue. To truly put a stop to foreign-influenced corporate spending in our elections, we need federal legislation closing this glaring loophole. Sign the petition: End Foreign-Influenced Corporate Spending in U.S. Elections. Reclaiming our democracy includes ensuring that the American people are the only ones making decisions. Multinational corporations must have no sway in our elections. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
