Ten years ago today, the Supreme Court handed down the Citizens United decision.
This terrible court ruling unleashed a tsunami of undisclosed, unlimited campaign spending that has since polluted our democracy.
It has never been more important to overturn Citizens United. Will you stand with Ed in this fight?
With Citizens United, the court defined money as speech and corporations as people. Since that decision, Super PACs, dark money, and unlimited campaign contributions have weakened our democracy.
Washington corruption will not end so long as we allow corporations to drown out people’s voices. Our government is supposed to be about checks and balances, not directed by those writing the biggest checks.
We need a constitutional amendment that will overturn Citizens United and ensure that every person, no matter their wealth, zip code, or socioeconomic background, has an equal say in our democracy.
Today, we must recommit ourselves to fixing our broken campaign finance system once and for all.
Enough is enough. After a decade of watching Citizens United chip away at our democracy, it’s time to put an end to corporations’ attempts to buy our government.
