Dear Friend,
Last week, when an earthquake devastated northwestern Syria, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff leapt into action within minutes.
And in January, when a missile struck a residential building in Dnipro, Ukraine, and killed upwards of 40 people, MSF staff were some of the first responders on the scene.
How can we move so quickly? It’s all thanks to the steadfast support of MSF’s monthly donors, also known as Field Partners.
Monthly gifts provide steady, flexible support to MSF. They allow us to have a ready reserve of funds that we can use to mobilize quickly and efficiently wherever a need arises—in other words, Field Partners allow us to save more lives. That’s why I’m elated to announce a special, but limited-time, opportunity for new monthly donors: an anonymous MSF donor has agreed to match the first SIX MONTHS of new recurring gifts made in the next 48 hours.
This special match means a monthly gift of just $30 becomes $60 for the first six months! Here are a few examples of the impact that could make for our patients:
In northwestern Syria, MSF was able to respond within minutes of the earthquake because our staff were already there addressing existing emergencies such as war, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a recent outbreak of cholera.
And we know that disasters can happen at any moment, anywhere around the world, which is why we stay ready. Last month, at the same time that MSF staff in Ukraine were racing to provide care in the minutes following the attack in Dnipro, MSF staff around the world were rushing to:
Provide specialized physical and mental health care for migrants in Tapachula, Mexico, many of whom who have been victims of violence or torture;
Provide urgently needed care to malnourished children in Herat province, Afghanistan, who have been affected by a broken health care system, widespread poverty, and increased restrictions placed on women;
Ensure free obstetric care and deliver healthy babies to healthy mothers amid ongoing conflict and instability in Bangui, Central African Republic.
These are just three examples of our medical programs in more than 70 countries.
MSF’s global staff—nearly 63,000—have the drive and expertise necessary to meet these challenges. What they need is your support, friend.
