Friend,
Mayor Eric Adams wants to defund our city. The city’s surplus is billions bigger than expected but Mayor Adams STILL wants to cut more than a billion dollars from programs New Yorkers rely on -- like schools, and homeless services.
Despite talking a big game about public safety, year after year the Mayor makes cuts to vital programs that are proven to make New York safer.
To me, safety isn’t a political bargaining chip. I was born and raised in the Bronx. I want my streets to be safe. I want the grannies to be outside and feel good. But the way to do it isn’t by over-policing my community. It’s by giving us resources.
The Mayor’s budget cuts:
- $50 Million from the Department of Homeless Services,
- over $200 Million from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene,
- nearly $300 Million from the Department of Education,
- and nearly $600 Million from the Department of Social Service.
--all while sitting on an almost $5 Billion surplus!
These cuts aren't just unnecessary, they are dangerous. Fully funded public schools, libraries, homeless support, mental health services, and parks are proven to make New York Safer.
