Sherrod grew up in Mansfield, Ohio and went to school with the sons and daughters of carpenters, ironworkers, autoworkers, and electricians. Those jobs disappeared as one factory after another left town and jobs were shipped overseas. Now, he fights to bring those jobs back home.
One steelworker gave Sherrod a canary pin as a reminder that workers used to take a canary into coal mines to warn them of dangerous gas. Today, Sherrod continues to wear that pin as a reminder of the work we still face to keep workers safe and defend their rights.
On the Senate floor, Sherrod and Bob are fighting day after day to preserve the dignity of work, and to make sure everyone has access to good-paying jobs, high-quality healthcare, a good education for their kids, and a chance to live out their retirement with security.
