Hi John, Happy Census Year!

This year, the United States will conduct its 2020 Census count — a count that happens only once a decade and paints a picture of everyone living in this country regardless of their status.

That last point — "regardless of their status" — is really important to me. My mother brought me to the United States when I was seven years old. She gave up a good job in Brazil to clean houses in America so that my brother and I would have a shot at a better life. We were undocumented when we came, and although we have all become citizens, we will never forget the constant fear that came with our immigration status.

That kind of fear is a significant barrier to participation in the Census — which is why my heart is so happy to be setting off on a statewide tour to spread the word about the importance of participating in the 2020 count.

Because in Pennsylvania, we all count.

xoxo,

Gisele
