John, today marks five years since the Parkland school shooting, when 14 students and 3 staff members were killed by a gunman with a military-style assault weapon.

School shootings keep happening — just last night, three students were killed and five others injured in a shooting at Michigan State University. And they’ll keep happening if we don’t do something about gun violence in our country.

Anniversaries are hard, John. You feel the absence of a loved one more keenly – I feel it each year on the date of my mom’s murder. But you’re also reminded of exactly why you keep fighting to stop the next tragedy. Today, I am thinking of the Parkland survivors who lost children, siblings, classmates, and friends and asking you to join me in honoring them with action.

The weapon used in Parkland is the same one used in many of the worst mass shootings our country has ever seen: An assault weapon. But even after the tragedy in Parkland, Congress did act to ban them; they didn’t act after Las Vegas, nor Uvalde, and still weapons of war remain on our streets.

But Congress can take action now, John. We cannot allow our leaders in Washington to ignore the toll that gun violence is taking on this country any longer, otherwise tragedies like the one in Parkland will continue to happen.

Here at Brady, we refuse to accept that this is the way things have to be. We won’t accept inaction. We believe in a better, safer future for all of us – and we need you to join us in fighting for it.

Do you think Congress should ban assault weapons?

YES
NO

We know exactly what it will take to prevent tragedies like the Parkland shooting. We drastically reduced gun violence deaths with an assault weapon ban in place for 10 years. But the NRA’s deadly influence ended the ban in 2004.

But change in Washington only happens if people like you and me fight for it. I'm all in on this fight – and if you are too, I need you to respond to our poll tonight so we can overcome NRA obstruction and finally pass an assault weapon ban. We're counting on another 5,000 responses before midnight, so please submit yours now.

Thanks for making your voice heard in the fight for change.
