While today is supposed to be a day when we celebrate love, for many Americans, it’s a day of tragedy. Today marks the fifth anniversary of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, when seventeen innocent lives were stolen from us.
Since then, we’ve witnessed tragedies in Uvalde, Buffalo, Monterey Park, Laguna Woods, and communities across the nation. And last night, we learned of yet another tragic shooting, this time on the Michigan State University campus. We’re only 45 days into 2023, and we’ve already seen more than 65 mass shootings. Enough is enough.
We deserve to feel safe in our classrooms, our houses of worship, our grocery stores, and our streets. We deserve to live free from the threat of gun violence. We deserve better.
Last year, after decades of inaction, Congress passed landmark legislation to strengthen gun safety measures in America. But we must do more. I’ve fought to pass commonsense gun reform in the State Senate – and I promise to continue fighting to keep our communities safe from gun violence.
Will you join me? Add your name to call on Congress to pass commonsense measures like universal background checks and a renewed assault weapons ban:
Thank you,
Dave
