John,
Today's Oregon's birthday.
It's also my birthday*.
Oregon is 164 years old today.
I'm not.
I'm incredibly proud to call Oregon my home.
I've been given the honor to represent Oregonians as a state legislator, a Labor Commissioner, and now a Congresswoman.
Oregon has mountains, high deserts, cities, river valleys, farms, forests, and 363 miles of the most beautiful coastline in the USA.
That's why my husband and I moved here – many birthdays ago – to raise our children here, and why I can't imagine calling anyplace else 'home.'
I'm fighting for every beautiful inch of this state, whether it be protecting our wilderness, upgrading our infrastructure, or fighting for good-paying jobs.
Not many people get to share a birthday with their favorite place on Earth, and represent their home in Congress.
I get to do both. And it's the honor of a lifetime.
Thank you for sharing it with me, John.
Happy birthday Oregon.
In gratitude,
Val
*It's also Valentine's Day, but let's not get carried away here.
