John, The Senate General Laws Committee will hear the Virginia Values Act tomorrow! And there’s more: The House of Delegates just introduced its version of the Virginia Values Act—House Bill 1663, which could get a hearing this week too. Things are moving fast, and that’s good. It means anti-LGBTQ forces have less time to sink their lies into lawmakers. But it also means many lawmakers might not even know about these bills yet. John: Contact your Senator and Delegate right now to make sure they know what the Virginia Values Act is (SB 868 and HB 1663) and they support it. It takes less than five minutes to log a call and send an email. Don’t worry: There IS broad support in the House and Senate for LGBTQ nondiscrimination legislation. But we can’t be complacent. Opponents of LGBTQ equality are churning out misinformation—claiming that Virginia Values Act would hurt our economy. That’s obviously false. Fortune 500 companies and top job creators in Virginia support legislation that protects LGBTQ people from discrimination, because they know it’s an effective way to create jobs, attract talent, boost tourism and drive innovation. We need lawmakers to hear the truth about the Virginia Values Act from us first. With SB 868 and HB 1663 speeding toward committee votes, I need you to reach out now. Use our contact tool. It takes less than five minutes. Sincerely, Vee Lamneck, Executive Director, Equality VA PS: If you’re looking to take the next step, join us at our Crowd the Capitol lobby days to speak up for the Virginia Values Act in person! You can find more information here. Lobby Days start at The Commonwealth hotel, at 901 Bank St, Richmond, VA 23219. |
