ACLU Supporter, what are a few things you'd expect a librarian to do in a workday?
Since 2021, accounts of book bans – largely content by and about people of color, the LGBTQ community, and other marginalized groups – and threats against librarians have soared. As dozens of states advance classroom censorship bills nationwide, libraries and library workers have increasingly become targets of harassment and have even been fired for refusing to take books off of their shelves. But if you believe in an educated citizenry – and a society where ideas are openly disseminated, discussed, and debated without fear of government reprisal – then there's a simple thing you can do today to show library workers you're with them, ACLU Supporter: It's a small, but powerful act for librarians who are on the frontlines of this fight right now. Thanks for your time today – and we'll be back with more updates on our ongoing work for civil liberties soon. Read up and read freely, The ACLU Team |
