Show the Earth your Love!
Join the February Meeting to learn why Deforestation is so Important: Global to Local Perspectives
We know forests play an important role as a carbon sink for our ecosystem, but there is so much more to understanding deforestation. While 50,000 species are lost every year to deforestation and it is having a profoundly destructive impact on everything from the water cycle to the survival of indigenous communities, there are many ways to take action, from legislation to the products you buy. You will enjoy hearing from our knowledgeable speakers from Friends of the Earth, Forests for All, and The Friends of Fort Greene Park. Register here.
Save the Date for Our Upcoming Climate Chat!
Climate Chats, a project of the Climate Idea Exchange, are an opportunity for concerned Brookynites to connect with one another, share their climate concerns, get connected with resources, and turn angst into action. Join us on Thursday, February 16th at 6:00 pm at the Greenpoint Library. Mark your calendars and tell a friend, then register here!
Join us for Power Hour: Low Pressure, High Impact
We provide all the tools necessary to dive in, you just show up! Join us on Mondays and Wednesdays 12-1pm and Wednesday evenings 8-9PM for Power Hour where we call and write in support of effective climate policy. On Wednesday 2/15 at noon we will target insurance companies with a special guest list. Then during the Wednesday evening writers’ hour on 2/15 we will dig deep into infrastructure (pun intended) by submitting testimony in favor of offshore wind and against fracked-gas expansion. We’ll also continue our push for NYRenews’ fantastic Climate Jobs and Justice Package - we’ll muster support for it among state legislators on Monday 2/27, and we’ll write letters to the editor about it on Wednesday evening 2/22. Sign up for Power Hour Here.
Help PvFF Stop the "Iroquois" Pipeline Compressors
Join with the People vs Fossil Fuels (PvFF) working group to stop the “Iroquois” Pipeline Company from building two new compressor stations in upstate NY that will increase the amount of fracked gas pumped through the “Iroquois” Pipeline. These compressors are unnecessary and dangerous, and go directly against the Climate Leadership Community Protection Act’s mandate of reducing the use of “fossil natural gas” in New York. We are demanding that the Dept of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Governor Hochul reject the Iroquois Pipeline Company’s proposal to build the new compressor stations.
Albany Update: Money for Climate Action
3Every year we go to Albany to ask for money in the budget for climate action and every year we get not nearly enough. This year NY Renews has a Climate, Jobs and Justice Package that includes permanent revenue streams that will genuinely fund New York State's climate work. The Climate Change Superfund Act would bill major fossil fuel polluters for the harm they have done. Another bill will cancel a host of fossil fuel tax subsidies. And we have a suite of bills, the Invest in Our New York package, that would raise money from the super-wealthy who benefit from the status quo. Let's get this done! Questions? Email [email protected]
Meanwhile, use this one-click tool to send the message: fully fund and implement the CLCPA!
