I'll get straight to it, John.
The San Francisco Chronicle just reported that I have a serious fundraising deficit compared to others who are running or considering a run for California's Senate seat.
You’ll be hearing more from me in the coming weeks about running for U.S. Senate – but I can't launch this campaign if I don't have the resources to get the job done.
That's why I'm personally asking: Will you chip in $5 or more right now to help me close this fundraising gap and build a progressive future for all?

I'll be honest: Fundraising isn't always the easiest for candidates of color. But I believe that to make bold, progressive change in our country, you must put your money where your mouth is.
For me, that meant raising money and investing in my progressive colleagues, and that's precisely what I have done over the years as a Congresswoman and an activist – lifting others as I climb.
Today, I hope you show me the same support and dedication I have given. As I look toward announcing my candidacy for U.S. Senate, it is not lost on me that there are currently no Black women serving today, and only two other Black women have ever served.
That's why I set a goal to raise $10,000 from grassroots supporters like you before midnight, but with time running out before our deadline, I'm falling just short.
So please, if you're with me, will you chip in $5 or more right now to join Team Lee and help me build a progressive future for us all?

Even against all odds, I will never stop fighting for a better future that works for all of us. Thank you for always standing with me.
– Barbara Lee
